Maternal/Infant Parent Support & Information

Home » Maternal/Infant Parent Support & Information

Bringing a new baby home is an exciting time… but as any first-time or experienced parent will tell you, it can also be overwhelming. Welcome Home Baby offers eligible parents a home visit by a nurse and connection to ongoing supports and services.

Home Visits

During the home visit, a nurse will check on your health and that of your baby, answering any questions you might have, and can share more about:

  • Breastfeeding
  • Infant safety & care
  • Brain development
  • Use of medical home
  • Mother’s postpartum health

Your nurse can connect you to on-going support for you and your baby through:

  • Home visiting programs
  • Playgroups
  • Child development information and screening
  • Additional community resources as needed

This free program is available to Kent County mothers and/or fathers who have an infant under 30 days old and are one or more of the following:

  • First-time parents
  • 25 years old or younger
  • Giving birth in the U.S. for the first time
  • Parents of a newborn in the NICU at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital

If you give birth at a Kent County hospital someone should be available to help you sign up before leaving. You can also call the Welcome Home Baby office when you get home to schedule your nurse visit.
